Movavi Video Editor is a desktop video editor for Windows and macOS with a free download that adds a watermark and limits clip length. The vendor sells a lifetime licence or an annual subscription, and lists AI tools such as auto subtitles and background removal. The homepage does not state Mac requirements or whether the free version expires, so those are marked as not stated.

Pros

  • A free download is offered so you can try the editor before paying (vendor)
  • The vendor lists AI tools including auto subtitles, noise removal and background removal (vendor)
  • A lifetime licence and an annual subscription are both offered (vendor)
  • Windows system requirements are stated on the homepage: a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 4 GB RAM and 600 MB of disk space (vendor)

Cons

  • Exports from the free version carry a watermark and clips are limited in length (vendor)
  • The FAQ says the free version must be purchased after 7 days, which the page does not reconcile with the stated limits
  • Templates beyond the free ones need a separate Movavi Templates subscription (vendor)
  • Mac system requirements are not stated on the homepage

How this review was made. This is a research-based review, not a lab test. Every claim comes from the vendor's homepage, read on 26 October 2026 and listed at the bottom. Where the vendor does not say something, we write "not stated". We do not publish prices: see the vendor's pricing page for your region.

Look at Movavi if

  • You want a desktop editor with AI subtitles and background removal.
  • You prefer a one-time licence to a subscription.
  • You want to try the editor on Windows before paying.

Look elsewhere if

  • You cannot accept a watermark on exports while you evaluate the free version.
  • You need Mac requirements confirmed; the homepage does not state them.
  • You want to compare it with other editors first; see our video editor comparison.

What the vendor says about features

The homepage describes editing tools for cutting, cropping, rotating, colour and speed, plus transitions, titles, filters and overlays. It lists more than 10,000 effects, more than 1,500 music tracks, LUTs and slow motion.

For AI, the page names auto subtitles, noise removal, background removal, silence removal, auto-tracked cropping and motion tracking.

Platforms and system requirements

Windows is listed with these requirements: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 1280 × 768 display, 400 MB of disk space for installation and 600 MB for ongoing use, and administrator rights for installation. The graphics requirement names compatible cards with up-to-date drivers.

A macOS version is linked from the homepage. Its requirements are not stated on the page we read. The homepage also mentions a “Movavi App” for editing on the go and links to an App Store listing; it does not clearly say whether iOS or Android is supported for the editor.

Free version

The vendor offers a free download. Its stated limits are a watermark on exported clips, a length limit of 60 seconds for video or half the audio, and some advanced features locked at export. Free templates come with each theme; other templates need a separate Movavi Templates subscription.

The FAQ says the free version must be purchased “after 7 days”. The homepage does not explain how this fits with the limits above, so we list it as a point to check on the vendor’s trial page.

Plans

The homepage offers a lifetime licence or an annual subscription for the full version. Movavi Templates is a separate subscription, and Movavi Unlimited is an all-in-one pack of the company’s programs. The homepage gives no currency amounts; the pricing page it links to was not read for this review.

Other Movavi programs

The homepage also lists Movavi Video Converter (the vendor says 180+ formats), Movavi Screen Recorder, Movavi Photo Editor and Movavi Video Suite, which bundles the editor, converter and screen recorder.

What is not stated

  • Mac system requirements.
  • Whether the free version expires after a set period, and how that relates to the watermark and length limits.
  • Supported export formats in the editor itself; a formats page is linked.
  • iOS and Android support for the editor.
  • Plan prices, which we do not publish.
