- The vendor's pages are not consistent on how many OCR languages are supported
PDFelement is Wondershare’s PDF editor. The vendor describes PDFelement 13 as an AI-powered, one-stop PDF solution for editing, converting and signing documents across desktop, mobile and web. This review summarises what the vendor’s own pages state about platforms, features, AI limits and the way it sells plans.
Look at PDFelement if
- You want one PDF tool for editing, conversion, OCR, forms, signing and page organising.
- You work across Windows or Mac and a phone or tablet.
- You prefer a perpetual plan that covers one major version over a yearly plan.
Look elsewhere if
- You need a Linux desktop app: the tech specs list Windows, Mac, Android and iOS only.
- You need to evaluate every feature before paying: the free trial is described as a watermarked subset.
- You want a side-by-side with other PDF editors; see our PDF editor comparison.
What the vendor says about features
The vendor’s feature pages group the tools into AI, editing, conversion, OCR, annotation, creation, page organising, reading, protection and forms.
- Editing: change text, sizes, colours and fonts, replace images, and add links, watermarks, shapes, audio, video, page numbers, headers and footers, and Bates numbers.
- Conversion: to and from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, images, ePub, HTML, RTF, text and Markdown, with batch conversion. The Windows tech specs also list PDF/A, XML and HWP/HWPX.
- OCR: recognises text in scanned PDFs and images, with batch OCR and area OCR listed.
- Forms and signing: create fillable forms, detect and fill fields, extract form data in bulk, and sign with certificate-based e-signatures.
- Protection: password encryption, watermarks and redaction, including automatic detection of sensitive data.
- Compression and organising: compress in batches, and split, merge, reorder, rotate, crop and compare PDFs.
AI tools and their limits
The vendor lists chat with PDFs, summaries, translation, a grammar checker, an AI content detector, rewriting, explanations, contract review and study aids such as flashcards and quizzes. Its store FAQ says there is no extra charge to try the AI features, but they have usage limits: both the free trial and paid versions start with a quota, and once it is reached there is an additional cost to unlock more use. The vendor’s page names add-on purchase options for unlimited AI access. The size of the quota is not stated on the pages we read.
Platforms and system requirements
The tech specs page lists these platforms:
- Windows: Windows 7, 8, 10 and 11, a Pentium 4 or equivalent processor, 512 MB of RAM (1 GB recommended) and 2.5 GB of free disk space.
- Mac: macOS 11.0 to macOS 26, on Apple silicon (M1 to M4) or Intel, with 1 GB of RAM or more and 1.5 GB of free disk space.
- Android: Android 7.0 and above.
- iOS: iOS 14 and above.
An internet connection is required for product activation, help, cloud functions and updates. The vendor also lists PDFelement Cloud, PDFelement Online tools and an SDK. The home page says OCR supports 26 languages, while the Windows tech specs list more than that, so we cannot confirm one figure.
How the vendor sells it
The Windows store page lists a quarterly plan, yearly plans (some set to renew automatically, others renewed manually), a two-year plan and a perpetual plan. The vendor says the perpetual licence does not expire and covers PDFelement 13, including free minor updates for desktop, while major upgrades may require another purchase. It says mobile and web access with the perpetual plan is for a limited time. A separate team licence lets an administrator assign seats, an individual licence is for one user, and an education plan has its own page. See the current price on PDFelement’s Windows plans page for your region.
The vendor offers a free, watermarked trial that it says contains a subset of the paid features. It describes a 30-day money-back guarantee that applies only under accepted technical circumstances and points to a refund policy.
What is not stated
- How large the AI quota is, and what the add-on options for extra AI use include.
- Which features are missing from the free trial beyond the watermark.
- A Linux version: none is listed.
- Independent test results for OCR accuracy or conversion fidelity: the vendor’s pages do not provide any.
