Wondershare UniConverter is a media converter for Windows and Mac. The vendor describes UniConverter 18 as an all-in-one, AI-powered toolkit for video, audio and images: converting, compressing, enhancing, recording and light editing. This review summarises what the vendor’s own pages state, and where they are silent.
Look at UniConverter if
- You want one desktop app for converting, compressing and enhancing video, audio and images.
- You convert files in batches or want a watched folder to process new files automatically.
- You want to shrink a video to a target file size.
Look elsewhere if
- You need unlimited AI features included with the software plan: the vendor says AI use may need credits.
- You work on Linux: the pages we read list Windows and Mac only.
- You want to judge quality or speed: the vendor's pages give no independent test results.
What the vendor says about conversion and compression
The vendor lists more than 1,000 supported formats, batch processing and conversion that preserves audio tracks, subtitles, chapters and metadata in compatible output formats. It says lossless conversion of compatible formats can run up to 130 times faster because there is no re-encoding, and that audio passthrough keeps the original audio stream. Compression works from a target file size or quality, with an estimated output shown and saved presets. GPU acceleration is listed for 4K, 8K and HDR files, and the tech specs name supported Intel, AMD and NVIDIA graphics models.
Automation and AI tools
UniConverter 18 adds Watch Folder, which applies saved rules to files as they arrive, a CPU control setting, and an AI Media Agent in beta that turns a written goal into per-file conversion settings. The AI tools listed include a subtitle editor (145 or more languages), speech to text, text to speech (150 or more voices), vocal and noise removal, a video summariser, background removal, an image generator, object and watermark removal and AI video blur. The vendor also lists screen recording, light editing and a DVD burner. Its FAQ says some AI features may require credits and that buying a software plan does not mean unlimited AI use.
Platforms and system requirements
The tech specs page lists Windows 11, 10, 8, 7 and Vista and macOS 10.13 or later, including macOS 26, on Intel and Apple silicon. Both need 2 GB of free disk space and 4 GB of RAM (8 GB or more recommended); Windows needs a CPU above 1 GHz. The vendor says AI features and hardware acceleration may need newer systems or specific hardware. UniConverter Online offers three free uses without registration, with watermark-free exports, but has file-size, format and feature limits and no batch processing.
The free trial and the plans
The store FAQ says the trial converts only a third of a video’s length, burns only a third of a video to DVD, downloads one file at a maximum resolution of 480p and records a limited amount of video. The store page lists yearly, two-yearly and perpetual plans, and says Windows and Mac plans are bought separately and differ in the functions supported. It says a perpetual licence gives lifetime access to the purchased version, including updates, but not future versions. AI credits can be bought separately, and some plans list bonus credits. The vendor describes a 30-day money-back guarantee, with refunds approved under accepted circumstances. See the current price on UniConverter’s Windows plans page for your region.
What is not stated
- How many credits each AI task consumes: the store comparison table marks the AI tools as paid by credits and lists a bonus allowance for each plan, but we found no per-task amounts. The vendor says the in-app requirement is shown before you run a task.
- Independent test results for conversion speed, output quality or compression density.
- A Linux version: none is listed.
